A veteran educator with over fifteen years teaching in the New York City public schools, Craig Garber’s experience has taken him all over New York City. Craig taught in Far Rockaway and East Harlem before launching a twelve-year career as a 6-8 mathematics teacher at the Beginning with Children Charter Middle School in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. There, in addition to providing math instruction, he has authored curriculum, provided professional development and coaching for new staff members, developed and implemented a Regents course in Algebra I for accelerated eighth grade students, coached basketball, chess and math teams, and headed the committee to plan multiple overnight excursions for students to travel out of the city. Craig served as UFT Chapter Leader at BwCCS and served on the AFT’s national charter school advisory council. Craig holds a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University, an M.A. in Gifted Education, also from Teachers College, and a B.A. in Sociology from the Pennsylvania State University.
